Chiba Lotte Marines pitcher Atsuki Taneichi made his first-team debut of the season on April 17 against the Rakuten Eagles at Rakuten Mobile Park, delivering a dominant performance. He tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just a few hits while striking out multiple batters.
“I had set a target of seven innings, so I’m really pleased with how it went,” Taneichi said after the game. “As far as I’m concerned, I’d give myself a perfect 100 points.”
The right-hander relied on his fastball and sharp breaking ball to keep the Eagles’ hitters off balance throughout the outing. He avoided major trouble, stranding runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings.
Taneichi’s strong start was a welcome sign for the Marines, who have been looking for consistency from their rotation. The 27-year-old had been working his way back from injury earlier in the season and made the most of his opportunity in the top-tier squad.
“I felt really good on the mound. The defense behind me was solid, and we were able to execute the game plan,” he added.
