A training ground altercation between Real Madrid midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni has escalated into a physical confrontation, with serious consequences for the Uruguayan star’s leadership role. The incident occurred on Thursday, May 7, when a verbal argument during practice turned into a fight in the dressing room. Valverde suffered a head laceration and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Real Madrid subsequently fined both players €500,000 each. According to sources, Valverde now faces the possibility of losing the captain’s armband. The 27-year-old is reportedly not seen as embodying the exemplary conduct expected from a team captain.
Valverde has been with the Madrid club since 2018. This season, he has played 48 matches across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists. Tchouaméni, 26, joined Real Madrid in 2022 and has appeared in 47 games this season, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
Real Madrid currently sit second in La Liga with 77 points after 35 matches. Barcelona secured the league title with 91 points from 35 fixtures, winning the Spanish championship for the second consecutive season and the 29th time in the club’s history.
